   APRIL 2008 NEWSLETTER

BY JOE PENNINGTON, CLUB SECRETARY

Saturday April 26, 2008

Hosts: Kenny & Sandy H

The pictures pretty much tell the story of the April 26th Funkhana. The weather was great and 13 cars began the game. Both driver and navigator took part in several driving events (backing in a parking spot, driving in a straight line and in a not so straight line).  It seems exiting the parking spot was more difficult than entering.  There was a little precision driving involved, if you consider driving in a circle precision driving.  The traffic cones that we used to define the course took a serious beating by the end of the afternoon.  There were athletic events, throwing washers in a rather large box, depositing 25 cents in a tin can (just try carrying a quarter between your knees and then dropping it accurately), and getting 2 water balloons from the navigator to the driver and the driver to the timing table without breaking them. There was a lot of cheering and laughing as some VVO club members were a little more coordinated than others.  The driver started and stopped the stopwatch and the times were tallied.

We then drove to our house and prizes were distributed; we had pizza, and a lot of talk about how moves could have been made differently to improve their times. Party got over around 9:30.  Many  asked for the Funkhana to be an annual event.

Let the games begin...

YOU ARE INVITED TO WATCH DRIVE IN MOVIES— JULY 19, 2008

Each year, the National Corvette Restorers Society sponsors a road tour which starts in various cities across the United States and ends at the national convention as the kickoff parade. This year the national convention is in St. Charles , MO and five of the individual road tours will be stopping in Branson. It is anticipated that there will be 75 cars. On the evening of July 19, the 57 Heaven complex is setting up a drive in movie theatre for the road tour participants. All local Corvette owners are invited to bring their cars and join in the fun. The price is right-it’s free. Concessions will be available. The cars will start arriving in the afternoon and the movies will begin at dusk. The 57 Heaven complex is at the Dick Clark theatre, across from the Dixie Stampede. For additional info contact Jim G at Grandview@centrytel.net

In July, a group is going to the Black Hills Corvette Rally, and then over to Yellowstone and the Grand Teton Mts.   Anyone interested in going, contact Joe Pennington at his NEW high speed e-mail address:  joep1522@att.net

For 2009, Jim Cohen asked if the Club would be interested in a trip to the Kentucky Derby .  Jim asked for a show of hands, and received a great response.  Also, Mike Salmon, Club Ambassador to National Corvette Museum , said that he and Joan will plan on sponsoring a trip to Bowling Green to visit the Corvette Assembly Plant, and the National Corvette Museum next year.  Mike and Jim are going to see if it's possible to combine both trips into one event, being they're both in Kentucky .  If the proposed trip to the Kentucky Derby is half as much fun as the trip to the Indy Speedway that Jim and Karen hosted, and the Bowling Green visit is half as much fun as the visits hosted by Lyle and Anny, and then Mike and Joan last year to Bowling Green, hang on to your hats!

C5 TIRES

For sale a set of Goodyear Eagle F1 EMT (runflat) tires for a C5. I removed these from my 1998 C5. They have lots of tread left, but are 10 years old. They would be good tires to install on a C5 that is going to be sold or traded in to replace worn out tires. They have never been curbed or patched. $150.00 for the set. Contact Joe P. at 417-881-8344 for additional info.
